My dad called this evening. Got off the phone a few minutes ago.
I told him of the predicament with Pizza Hut, and of the joy of finding out I actually do have what it takes to get a research assistant job in my field of study.
He informed me that, among other things going poorly at home, my mother quit her job due to unacceptable working conditions (trust me, she was entirely in-the-right; they were screwing her more than Pizza Hut is screwing me); this leaves my dad as the sole provider for our family of seven. She has no idea where she's going to go from here, and my dad is likely to get a second job in the evenings (something he absolutely cannot afford to do with his current job).
He then informed me of the thing with the oil companies in Congress, as I never really watch the news anymore and had no idea this was going on; this reminded me of an idea I had recently for my satire entitled Multiverse. I told it to him, and he just laughed for a good five minutes.
But, yeah. Family in dire straits. And with gas prices the way they are coupled with the distance my dad needs to drive daily, plus the fact that they filed for bankruptcy a few years ago (almost immediately after he broke his back ironworking), things just aren't going to work out there. :/ I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm sure we've made it through worse before...
