Sterling was there today. I was entirely correct to be nervous. He tore into me like my roommates do to salt and vinegar chips. ^^; Though, he does have every right to - I have no idea what I'm doing, and he's my supervisor, after all.

Four things he wants me to accomplish ASAP:
1.) Get and learn how to use a cell phone. (He's currently loaning me the employee's whom I'm replacing.)
2.) Get a driver's license.
3.) Be able to ride my bike in this atmosphere.
4.) Get a key to the lab.

Unfortunately, I cannot possibly do the first two for several reasons, the biggest of which being I'm now officially completely broke, and don't get paid until next Friday (and even that's only going to be about $70 after taxes). No money = no either of those two (not to mention no food for this week; thank god I bought that box of corn dogs last week).

My dad still has that check from when I worked a week over the Winter break. Maybe I can harass him into actually shipping that out here. That is, if he hasn't forged my signature and cashed it himself to pay off bills. :/ God, we're poor.

I made it through 6 years of NMT with no cell phone. Of course, I graduated before they really existed all that much, but still, the point is, you don't f'ing need a cell phone, and if they're going to _require_ you to have one, they're going to pay for it. It's probably a law, even. So screw him on #1.

#2 - umm, why? You can't possibly be far from campus, unless you actually like moved to Lemitar or something. Hell, most of China doesn't own a car, and they're quite productive! Oh, and on the no-money thing: you need a bigger student loan. ;) I survived on $70/week when I was there (after taxes, before rent), but that was like ten years ago. Ramen, potatoes, water, and free social events. Mmmmm... ramen...

#3 - acclimation issue, I guess? That'll go away after about a week of biking. 'course, not if it's -8F outside (like it is now, here in Denver).

#4 - that could be the toughest one of all. Red Tape SuX0rZ!

Yeah, you should have Sterling pay for your phone. Your case is simple:
1. You have no need for a cell phone other than for work.
2. You cannot afford to pay for a cell phone, especially one you don't need.

The cycling is just a matter of doing it. It'll get easier as it gets warmer, and it's much warmer now than it was just a week ago.

The others are easy after he's got some money. I think a NM DL is ~$30 and keys take a $5 deposit. If you need to get the special license to drive the NMT vehicles, they should pay for it. That's how I got mine: Langmuir Lab needed me to drive a truck for them, so they paid the fee for me to get the special license (which has the added bonus of allowing me to be able to drive vans for conventions).

Problem is, it probably wouldn't just be for work; my mother has been harassing me to get a cell phone (or threatening that she'll get one for me) since I moved out here. So, this would be the perfect excuse for her to get me one as well, especially since this job will have me stay here over the summer, something she would absolutely dispise.

With the cycling, the biggest problem has been getting oxygen to my legs; I can breathe just fine, but after about fifteen minutes, my legs turn to rubber and won't work anymore. I mean, I need to get used to it anyway though, so I might as well.

And yes, the other two are fairly easy with money; I actually took the written test for a driver's license about a year and a half ago. All I needed at the time was to see the DWI video and take the actual driving test.

...I like salt and vinegar chips ^_^

I haven't got a cell phone, and I don't want one. There are maybe two times a year when I might need one, and that's during validation. This would not be a problem if our phone network didn't love the cock.

So do my roommates; they tear into them like there's no tomorrow. :P
